New Year Resolutions

So we are on the last day of 2015, this year has flown by!

It wouldn't be the start of the year without people making resolutions. Usually I end up breaking said resolutions after 1-2 weeks but at least I try aye?!

I have decided to make just five resolutions this year, so that they are a little easier to keep all of them. So here goes:-

1. RELAX. I am a constant worrier and get stressed out so easily. I think that this can also trigger my eczema. I therefore need to try and keep as calm as possible this year and find out as many methods as possible to keep me calm.

2. Sleep more. I always tell myself I will get an early night but something always distracts me and before I know it, it is 12:30am and I have to be up in 6 hours time. Sleep is one of the best things for your body, so I need to force myself to start going to bed at a sensible time.

3. Read more. I usually go through stages when it comes to reading. I do not read as much as I would like and usually choose to watch a film instead. I really need to read a lot more in 2016.

4. Save more. I am hoping to buy my first house at the end of the year, I therefore need to stop spending money on silly little things and actually start saving hardcore from tomorrow.

5. Exercise. Since I turned 27 in March it has all gone downhill. I used to be one of those people who seemed to always stay the same weight no matter how much I pigged out. I admit I pretty much can out-eat most people I have ever met due to my big appetite and this has never been a problem before due to my fast metabolism. However, since turning 27, the weight has started to creep on and it will continue to do so until I stop being so lazy and start exercising. If anyone has any good methods of motivation, please share with me.

Do you have any new years resolutions for 2016?

I hope you all have a lovely New Years Eve and a wonderful 2016.

Neal's Yard Remedies to Roll Night Time

As I have mentioned a few times on my blog, I struggle to switch off and it can take me a while to get to sleep.

When shopping recently in Neal's Yard, I came across the Remedies to Roll Night Time roll on. This is made of a blend of balancing essential oils which you roll over pulse points before bed to help people unwind, relax and prepare the body for a restful sleep. It also claims to help at times of anxiety and depression.

Does it work? Yes I believe it does help me, the smell is amazing and is so relaxing. I use both this and the This Works Pillow spray which I have mentioned previously here. Together, they help me drift off much faster than I usually would for a nice nights sleep.

It is £6.50 for a 9ml bottle. Although this sounds expensive for the size of it, I have been using this for 4-5 weeks now and it looks as though it has barely been used. You can buy it from Neal's Yard here.

Has anyone else used this before? Did it work for you?

Hylamide Sensitive Fix

A couple of months ago, I decided it was time for me to add a skin booster to my skincare regime. After a good 30 minutes in Boots, I decided upon the Hylamide Sensitive Fix, due to the fact that I have very sensitive and dry skin because of my eczema.

The Sensitive Fix booster claims to help deal with sensitivity, redness and irritated skin. It contains Patented Marvel of Peru and pH balancing golden-eye grass complex which is a plant complex which counteracts skin pH imbalance in the immediate and short term to reduce signs and feeling of sensitivity.

I admit for the first couple of days I didn't notice much of a difference but after a week or so of use, I noticed my skin was less irritated and red when I used it once a day with my regular skincare.

I only use 2-3 drops and apply it to my face in a circular motion before moisturising. I have used this most days and I still have over half the bottle left, so it is well worth the money.

I admit it isn't an organic/natural product like I have recently been trying to use, but it works so I would rather use this than a natural product that isn't as effective.

It is usually £18.00 for a 30ml bottle, but is currently only £12.00 at Boots.

Has anyone else tried any of the Hylamide range before? What booster do you use?

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. I am sure by now, most people in England are up and have already eaten their breakfast and opened some of their presents.

Christmas really is a day to spend with those closest to you, so I hope you all have a truly magical Christmas and are spoilt rotten by your loved ones.

Here is a photo of my cat Lily thinking she is a Christmas Tree decoration.

I will tell you a little about my Christmas tradition in the Powers household.

My sister moved out November 2014 but both last year and this year she has come home on Christmas Eve, so we can all wake up and open our presents together.

We wake up at about 8-9am (used to be 5am until we became grumpy teenagers who hated early mornings) and we go downstairs to eat breakfast in front of the fire. Then Sophie (my sister) and I have to open our presents in turn whilst our parents watch before they then open theirs.

We then spend the morning watching Christmas films and Top of the Pops before having Christmas Dinner at 1pm and a Christmas buffet at around 5pm.

My Granddad and my Auntie and Uncle come over on the evening for the buffet and to watch some films together.

I love how Christmas brings everyone together as a family and it is nice to actually do something all together for once.

Lastly, I hope all of those who are unable to be with their loved ones this Christmas, whether it be due to distance, work commitments or a death, have the best Christmas that they can possibly have. I can't imagine what you must be feeling to not be able to spend this day with the person/people you want to be with and I send my love to you.

What did you all get for Christmas? Do you have any traditions that you and your family/loved ones do on Christmas day?

Cheap Nail Polish Without Formaldehyde

Last December I had an allergy test to see what was flaring my eczema up. The test unfortunately didn't find the main cause of my flare ups, however it did show that my skin did not cope well with exposure to Formaldehyde.

After conducting some research, I found out that Formaldehyde was a common skin irritant and was used in the majority of nail varnishes, especially the cheaper ranges sold in drug stores.

Not only did I discover this but I also found out that this ingredient is used to embalm dead bodies and is in various household cleansers and disinfectants. Do you really want that on your nails?!

Most of the nail varnishes I could find that didn't contain this ingredient were around the £15 upwards mark, which was a bit much considering that fact I mainly used to buy £2.99 Barry M nail polishes before.

A few weeks ago I accidentally came across the LOreal Color Riche Nail Polishes which are only £4.99 and DO NOT contain formaldehyde, woooo!! Not only that, they are also available in 52 shades!!

I decided to pick up three of them to try.

I decided to purchase 404 Scarlet Vamp which is a lovely deep berry colour which is perfect for winter, 136 Flaming Elegance which is a pretty pink colour and 842 Sequin Explosion which as the name suggests is a beautiful clear nail varnish with lots of pretty sequins which is again perfect for the party season.

I am very happy with these nail varnishes and I am so happy that I have managed to find such cheap nail varnishes without formaldehyde. I finally feel girly again after having to go so long with nothing on my nails. I will be now be buying some of these lovely nail polishes every month to expand my collection.

I have seen some lovely organic nail varnishes I want to try but as they are over £15 I won't be buying them in large quantities like I will be with the LOreal polishes.

You can buy the LOreal Color Rich Nail Polishes here for £4.99.

Does anyone else have any good nail varnishes they would recommend that do not contain formaldehyde?

New Years Eve Dresses

Not only is Christmas only around the corner, so is New Years Eve. I love New Years Eve,
the only problem is finding the perfect dress for the evening.

Most people tend to dress up a little more for New Years Eve than they would for a normal
weekend, therefore you need to look your best and find that perfect little number which will
make you stand out from the crowd.

Untitled #3

I have therefore had a browse on various different websites to come up with my favourite
New Years Eve dresses. I personally always like a some glitter and sequins for New Years
Eve.

What dresses do you like the most? Does anyone have any other websites to recommend
to others for where you can buy a lovely New Years Eve dress from?

Why Every Adult Needs a Colouring Book

As I have mentioned before, I am not the most artistic of people in the slightest, so I have not used a colouring book since I was probably around 8 years old..... nearly 10 years ago!!

I have a very stressful job of being a Trainee Solicitor and I need all the help I can get when it comes to unwinding and keeping my stress levels down. I have recently heard a few friends mention they have adult colouring books but I didn't think anything at first as I just thought it would be more for the artistic type of people.

This was until I heard what the adult colouring books were meant for,.......... to help you de-stress and relax. I am always looking for ways to unwind, as you will see from my previous post here.

When out shopping last week, I thought I would have a look in The Works to see what adult colouring books they have. They had dozens of them, from colouring books based on TV shows such as Game of Thrones to colouring books purely of rainforests.

As I am a hugeeee cat lover, the choice was pretty easy for me. As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to have it.

The book is currently £3.00, reduced from £7.99 and has 70 pages to colour in.

In the last week I have decided to turn my computer and phone off an hour before bed and colour in my book for 30-60 minutes before I go to sleep. It really does help with de-stressing and helps switch my mind off before I go to sleep.

You can buy this book here if you want to try this method of de-stressing out yourself.

Has anyone else got in to this craze? Does anyone have any good adult colouring books they would recommend?

Eczema Dry Skin Ointment

I haven't spoke for a while about my eczema on here and eczema was the main reason I started this blog. I started this blog to talk about my skincare experiences with eczema and to talk about what has and hasn't worked for my dry sensitive skin.

This post isn't really relevant to anyone who doesn't suffer with a dry skin condition, so sorry in advance to anyone who doesn't fall within this category, but I felt I should share my experience to help others.

I have been using Doublebase gel as my facial moisturiser for the past few years. Whilst this cream is very oily, when I have very very dry skin, it practically just slides straight off my face instead of actually sinking in to my skin.

I finally had my dermatology appointment last week at my local Hospital and the dermatologist has introduced me to a new face cream.

This new cream is Hydromol Ointment.

As you will see from the photo, the cream does not contain SLS, which I am sure by now you know I have completely cut out of my skincare regime. This cream is a very thick ointment and can be used as a deep moisturiser or as a facial mask.

It moisturises my skin better than anything I ever have before and in the week I have been using it, it really has improved my skin dramatically.

My local Doctors have never recommended this to me before, so if I hadn't visited my dermatologist before I would never have tried this out.

If you haven't tried this before and have very very dry skin, I would recommend you asking your Doctor if you can sample some. It has been a miracle ointment for me.

I would eventually prefer to have a more natural/organic product for my facial skincare but at the moment I have not found anything that can hydrate my skin enough.

Has anyone else tried this before? Does anyone have any good moisturisers they would recommend for extremely dry skin?

Diego Dalla Palma lipstick in Antique Pink Review

This year as well as my Cadbury and Milky Bar advent calendars, I also decided to purchase the Marks and Spencer Beauty Advent Calendar and oh what an amazing calendar it has been so far.

I will be showing you over the next few weeks, the lovely gifts that have been hiding behind each door.

First of all, I am going to talk about the delight behind door 11 of the calendar.

This being the Diego Dalla Palma lipstick in 46 Antique Pink.

The lipstick is available here for £15.50, which considering I paid £25.00 for the calendar alone, it shows how great the content and value of the calendar actually is.

Back to the lipstick. This colour is gorgeous. It is a perfect daytime shade and is a nice dusky pink colour.

It is not at all drying and both times I have worn it, it has stayed on for most of the day, which I really struggle to find with lipsticks.

I have never heard of this brand before but I will definitely be trying out some of their other lipsticks as I am very impressed.

Has anyone else got the Marks and Spencer Beauty Calendar? Has anyone tried any of the Diego Dalla Palma lipsticks before?

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day

It is Christmas Jumper Day this Friday 18th December in England. That means we all get the opportunity to wear Christmas Jumpers all day long, even at work, woo!
I have had a look online and found my favourite 9 jumpers to share with you to help those of you who are still yet to buy one for Friday or Christmas Day.

As well as creating a festive atmosphere around the Country, the day is actually to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. So if you do end up wearing your jumper this Friday, make sure you Text Santa to donate some money for such an important cause.

Will you be wearing a Christmas Jumper to work/school Friday?

Easy Christmas Wrapping

I am not the most artistic of people and I therefore do not create the prettiest wrapping of presents at Christmas time. It pretty much looks as though I have just bunched the paper around the present and sellotaped it shut, which pretty much was what I used to do.

This year I decided it was time to finally at least attempt to make my wrapping look a little bit prettier.

First of all I decided to have a look for the perfect wrapping paper, for some weird reason I have always loved tartan, so as soon as I saw this paper in Hallmark, I knew I had to buy it. I can't find it online so unfortunately I can not tag it for you but I only purchased this 10 days ago in a pack of 2 rolls of paper with ribbons and bows for £4.99, bargain.

My main worry wasn't so much wrapping the present with the wrapping paper but the bow on the top. I managed to find a YouTube tutorial here which shows you step by step how to tie a ribbon bow on a present. If you want any help with doing this, I would strongly recommend this video as after watching it once I managed to do it easily to the rest of my presents. What did we used to do before YouTube aye?!

To top it off I purchased these cute little Christmas Tree gift tags from WHSmith which are only £1 for 4 and you can buy them here.

The final touch to my gift wrapping is by attaching the gift tag with a cute little peg. I have seen a few people do this on blogs and various websites recently and I think it is a brilliant idea and adds such a cute little touch to the present. The little heart pegs I have used are from eBay and you can buy a pack of 10 for only £1.89 with free delivery here. They only took 3 days to come, so if you order them asap you will have them before Christmas. There are also various other pegs you can buy from Paperchase who do some lovely pegs with little penguins and reindeers on them.

I feel so relieved that I have finally wrapped all my Christmas presents. Christmas Day can you hurry up now please.

Has everyone else finished wrapping their presents? How do you wrap yours? Do you have any special touches you do?

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub Review

So I may be verrrrrrryyyyy late to the party but I finally purchased the Lush Lip Scrub a few weeks ago and I am very annoyed with myself that it has taken me so long to finally buy it.

I suffer from very dry skin and hair but for some weird reason, my lips don't get dry very often which is probably why I haven't been in a rush to try this ever so popular lip scrub.

I love mints, to the extent that I am probably slightly addicted to mints as I eat at least a pack of Extra Strong Mints a day, ooops. So there wasn't must struggle in choosing which scrub to go for, the Mint Julips was clearly the scrub for me.

Lush claims that is is "A gentle lip scrub with more than a hint of mint humbug about it. Turn chapped lips into mint-choc chip lips. Warming peppermint and sweet vanilla combine with real sugar crystals give your lips (and tastebuds) a service, leaving them primed for smooth lipstick application. As soon as you gently rub Mint Julips on your lips, you'll feel its invigorating peppermint oil tingling away while the sugar crystals buff away any flaky skin".

To use you need to slightly dampen your lips and rub the tiniest amount of the scrub on your lips and slightly rub your lips in circular motions. If you follow this with a nice lipbalm, your lips will be perfectly smooth and moisturised, ready for even the driest of lipsticks.

The smell and taste of the scrub is delicious. It smells absolutely gorgeous and makes you wish that you could actually eat it.

I have been using this 2-3 times a week to keep my lips in top condition this winter and I will definitely be re-purchasing when I finish the tub, which by the way won't be for a long time as it you only require such a small amount each use.

The scrub is £5.50 for a 25g pot and is available in Lush stores and on their website here.

Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

As you may have read in previous posts, I am staying away from any product that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. If you want to read my reasoning behind this, have a look at my previous post here.

As my previous shampoo (Moroccan Oil shampoo) contained Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, I decided to try a few more natural shampoo and conditioners until I found the perfect one for me.

I first of all tried the L'Oreal Hair Expertise shampoo which is actually from a range of L'Oreal products that do not contain any sulphates. If you want to read my review on this, have a look here.

After recently visiting Holland and Barrett, I came across the Dr Organics range.

I have so far tried their body wash which I find fantastic, which you can read about here.

As I was so impressed with the Vitamin E bodywash, I decided to try their shampoo and conditioner. They stock a range of different shampoo and conditioners but I decided to try their Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner products as I know Argan Oil is great for taming frizz prone dry hair.

As you will see from the photo below, both products promise to be free of Parabens, SLS, Artificial colours, fragrances and harsh preservatives.

The first thing I noticed after use was that my scalp doesn’t itch when I use this, compared to the majority of other shampoos (which I am sure is due to their Sodium Sulphate content).

The shampoo is fantastic. A tiny amount covers all my long thick hair due to how much it lathers up (who needs SLS as a foaming agent aye). The conditioner is great but my only concern is when my hair is feeling very damaged, it doesn’t smooth it out as good as some of the previous high end conditioners I have used in the past but all in all it does a great job.

Overall I really do like this range. It leaves my hair feeling and smelling great and I will continue to keep buying it.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are only £5.99 each, so they are definitely worth a try.

If anyone lives in the West Midlands, Holland and Barrett now have a discount store in Resort World (near Birmingham airport) where all their usual products are 30% off all year round.

Has anyone else tried this range before? Does anyone have any other sulfate free shampoo and conditioner they would recommend I try?

My Organic Body Wash

If you have read my blog before you will know I no longer use anything that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

I also found that if I was trying to do that, I may as well try to use organic products when I can too. After shopping in Holland and Barrett recently, I came across the Dr Organic range. I decided to try one of the shower gels. I picked up the Dr Organic Vitamin E Body Wash.

It claims to penetrate and moisturise the driest of skin, giving instant conditioning while maintaining elasticity. It will cleanse the skin whilst the rich antioxidant tocopherol absorbs into the epidermal layer to instantly hydrate and leave the body feeling freshly cleansed and in silky smooth condition.

It contains bioactive, natural and organic ingredients and is free from parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, artificial colours, fragrances and harsh preservatives.

I love this body wash and wish I had come across it before. It has such an amazing lemon scent to it and you only require a small amount to cover your whole body.

It moisturised my skin perfectly and left my skin smelling delicious. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

You can buy it from Holland and Barrett here for only £5.49.

Has anyone else used anything from the Dr Organic range before?

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation Review

I have been waiting to try the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation from the first day I heard about it. The promise of a flawless coverage is right up my street. The higher the coverage the better for me.

I purchased the foundation in the shade '3 fair/pale'. It was a perfect match for my pale skin and I was so excited to wear it.

Did it offer the coverage it claimed? Yes it did and I was so happy and thought I had finally found my dream foundation.

However, within 10 minutes of wearing it my skin looked very dry and the foundation looked a bit 'caked on'. After 3 hours my skin was the driest it has ever been, to the extent that my skin was flaking. I have never experienced this from any foundation I have ever tried before, nothing even close to this.

At first I thought maybe I was just having a bad skin day, but all 4 times I have tried to wear it, my skin has dried out dramatically.

If your skin is oily or even normal/combination then I would recommend you buy this as the coverage is absolutely fantastic, but if your skin is dry at all, then stay away.

I am so disappointed as I was so excited about this, I guess I will be sticking to my MAC Studio Sculpt foundation.

I have spoken with Charlotte Tilbury and they have been fantastic and looked at my skin and recommended their Light Wonder Foundation which is more suited for dry skin. They have exchanged my Magic Foundation for their Light Wear one which I will review for you shortly.

Has anyone tried the Charlotte Tilbury Magic or Light Wonder Foundations?

Holly Stevens Black Friday Event

If you have been viewing my blog over the last few weeks you will have seen me review a few Holly Stevens products. If you haven’t managed to catch my reviews, have a look at what I thought of their contour palette, lipstick palette and mascara.

Out of all 3 products, I would say the mascara is my favourite as it really lengthened my usually short stubby lashes.

Holly Stevens have contacted me to let all my readers know that as it is Black Friday today, they will be holding an exclusive 30% off sale. All you need to do is use the code ‘MAD30’ at the checkout.
Have a look on their website here and have a look at what  lovely make up items you can buy.

My Christmas List

Untitled #1

Every year since I was a little girl (well young, as I am still very little now), I have always made a Christmas List. When I was younger I would spend hours and hours circling items I wanted in the Argos catalogue.

Luckily these days, we have the internet, so the amount of items we can add to our Christmas Lists are infinite. I have browsed the internet for weeks and came up for a few items I really need in my life, that I have ever so nicely asked my family and boyfriend to buy me for Christmas.

First up is Benefit Gimme Brow. I have heard so much about this and how amazing it is meant to be. I currently use Benefit Brow Zing and I have heard a few people say to use Brow Zing and then use Gimme Brow on top. So hopefully, come Christmas Day, I will be able to let you know whether it is as magical as people claim it is.

Then there is Urban Decay Naked 3. To be honest I don' t think I even need to justify why I need this as I am sure post people will agree that any make up lover will have this in their make up bags.

Then there is the Gossip Girl boxset. For some reason, I only started watching this series this time last year. After the first episode I was hooked and I think I could actually say that this (along with Friends obviously) is my favourite show I have ever watched. I therefore need the boxset in my life, so I can watch it over and over again.

YSL Black Opium perfume is next on my list. I recently smelt this on a trip to Selfridges and it smelt amazing. I new it had to be my next perfume.

I have then added the Stella McCartney Stella bra to my list. Underwear is a basic human need, so why not ask for more. I saw this bra on the Outnet and it has been reduced from £96.00 to £43.20. Therefore I can’t miss out on this deal and have asked Father Christmas to be kind enough to let me have this for Christmas.
Last but not least is the MAC Vegas Volt Lipstick. Now I do have quite a fair few MAC lipsticks but I still feel the need to add more to my collection. I have seen Vegas Volt many times online and it looks absolutely gorgeous on, I can’t believe I haven’t actually purchased it yet.

What's on your Christmas List this year?

Holly Stevens Cosmetics Contour Kit

If you have read my blog before you will see I have tried a couple of Holly Stevens products before.

I have reviewed both their Volumising Mascara and their Lipstick Palette for brunettes before which you can review here and here

As I have mentioned previously, Holly Stevens Cosmetics is owned by Steven Hutchinson who aims to provide high quality designer make up without the designer price tag whilst attempting to challenge the beauty and fashion industry to prove that natural beauty is more attractive. Have a read of the inspiring story behind Holly Stevens Cosmetics here

Now let's get on to what I am here to review today, the Holly Stevens Pro Contouring Palette.

The palette claims to help you contour like a pro. It contains all the bronzer, contour and highlighter you need in one palette.

It contains three highlighting shades, two contouring shades and a bronzing shade. It also comes with a handy little instruction card which shows you where to apply each product.

I love this palette. I think it is so simple to use and the instruction card on where to apply each product really helped me. Personally I preferred the third highlighting shade as it was the most shimmery and I liked the first contouring shade as I am very pale and it was the perfect colour for me. I'm sure I will use the other shades when I get a tan in the Spring/Summer.

Since receiving this, it is a make up staple of mine and I use it most weekends now (I am way too lazy to contour and highlight for work in the week). The photos below unfortunately do not pick up the highlighting as good as I had hoped, but I can assure you it highlights perfectly.

If you wish to buy the palette yourself, it is £25.99 and you can buy it here.

Has anyone else used this contour kit before? What do you use to contour?
